Marine Results, in collaboration with Richard Freemantle and an internationally recognised NDT training centre, has designed and implemented a ‘first of its kind’ Marine Composites Specific NDT training course.
The unique course took place in February 2015 over a period of two full weeks, and covered a wide range of advanced NDT techniques, including phased array, pulse echo and angle beam ultrasonics, pitch catch resonance bond testing techniques, corrosion mapping and manual and automated tap-testing.
With a wide range of sample marine composites and metallics gathered from 10 years of marine NDT inspections a diverse variety of defect and damage scenarios were inspected during the training with specific test pieces assigned for the examinations phase.
This course continues Marine Results improvement programme in Marine NDT and combines with our recent investment in high and low frequency phased array ultrasonics, meeting the requirements of NAS 410, SNT-TC-1A and EN 4179. This has put us very much in the forefront of this sector.
Specific techniques and structures included in the course include: Keel and keel bolt testing, autoclaved laminate inspections, cored laminate inspections, attenuative materials inspections. With this extensive toolkit of inspection techniques and equipment Marine Results is now able to provide a specifically tailored NDT inspection to meet the diverse requirements of the marine industry in both composites and metallic inspections.
