Marine Results revisited the world’s tallest sloop rig in the autumn, that of Mirabella V, when the team carried out a full re-tune and one year service, as required by the yacht’s insurance underwriters. The giant 98 metre 46 tonne rig was inspected and serviced at Newport Shipyard, in RI.
Marine Results also removed the cylinder of the yacht’s vang. This alone is 9.5 metres long and weighs 900 kg, and is capable of pulling 112 tonnes.
We serviced and renewed some parts, and pressure tested and refitted it. We managed to complete the work in two days, which the captain was very pleased with.
Mirabella is a regular client for Marine Results. When the yacht was first rigged we worked as part of the original rigging workforce on this highly specialised rigging programme, due to the huge sizes and loads involved.
We have returned to the yacht a number of times, including when we carried out the four-year service in 2008, a routine inspection according to warranty conditions, which involved a major un-stepping and dismantling task to carry out remedial and repair work.
