Squall: a lorry load of rig components get NDT treatment

As we write in February, Marine Results are currently on the dockside in Palma Mallorca taking care of the rigs of the Dubois designed Perini Navi Squall.  Another of the world’s big sailing yachts at 52.34m (171’8″ft), Squall’s rigs are large and complex.  The rig was unstepped and in December 2016 more than 360 components, a full lorry load in fact, have been shipped to the company’s central facility in Hamble for non-destructive testing (NDT) using their dye penetrant process, to detect any tiny flaws, in which case the component would be replaced.  The mast gets repainted and the rigging and hydraulics are also being serviced at Ocean Yacht Systems.   The rig overhaul coincides with a complete engineering refit and replacement teak decking for the yacht at STP in Palma.  In the spring Marine Results will reassemble the rig which will be back in the yacht in time for the summer season.
