Dye Penetrant

Penetrant inspection is a technique used to detect flaws that are open to the surface. The technique can be used on all metals, non-porous and other materials. The testing workshop at Marine Results’ head office in Hamble, UK,  is equipped to carry out flourescent dye penetrant inspections.  This method is more sensitive than many onsite techniques.

There are two main methods generally adopted by Marine Results: in-house flourescent water washable, and visible red, which is more often used on site at the yacht’s location.

The image to the right shows toggles from the rig of a 43m ketch being treated with flourescent water washable dye penetrant.
